Ride and Drive to the Devil?s Punchbowl

Article and photos by: Bill Inglis

At approximately 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 21st, twelve Ferraris left the Denny's Restaurant at Roxford on the 5 Freeway in Sylmar and headed north into the Mojave Desert. After approximately an hour or so driving through canyons and desert backroads, we arrived at the Devil's Punchbowl. If you haven't been there, you are truly missing a spectacular natural monument located just south of Palmdale. It is a very interesting place and has a Ranger station with live replicas of the native snakes, animals and birds indigenous to the desert.

Some of the more noticeable Ferraris were Walter Meyers' newly purchased 348 Speciale. Bill Bowdish and his wife Ann brought an absolutely spectacular dark blue 365 2+2. Tino Mingori was there with his old, now famous 275 GTB4, Steve Ellsworthy brought his Testarossa, and Dave Roemer brought a very clean 308. Cesar Chavarria brought his super clean black 348 and was the most spirited driver of the day.

All and all it was a fun day for everyone and if I must say so, the hamburgers were the best we have ever had.

We headed home by 3 o'clock in the afternoon after a great day among our friends.
